Today, I get to bring you a very special guest, someone whose work has transformed my whole practice, and who has been helping people heal their relationship with food and their bodies through intuitive eating for three decades!

In this conversation, Intuitive Eating co-founder Evelyn Tribole shares why this compassionate, research-backed framework is more relevant than ever—especially during menopause.

You'll Learn:

  • Diet culture is systemic and harmful.
Tribole emphasizes that we are not born hating our bodies—those beliefs are learned through family, institutions, and media. Intuitive eating aims to disrupt that cycle and reframe our relationship with food and body image.

  • Undernourishment is often mistaken for lack of willpower.
What many perceive as “loss of control” around food is often the body’s biological response to restriction. Intuitive eating recognizes this and advocates for sufficiency, not scarcity, in nourishment.

  • Interoceptive awareness is central to healing.
This is our ability to perceive internal body cues like hunger, fullness, and emotions. Tribole calls it a “global emotional moment,” and reconnecting with it—especially during perimenopause—can be life-changing.

  • Midlife body changes are normal—and not something to fix.
Instead of making the body a project, intuitive eating encourages self-connection, compassion, and acceptance. Midlife offers a unique opportunity to rebuild trust in our bodies after decades of dieting.

  • Intuitive eating is compatible with medical conditions.
You don’t have to choose between honoring your health and rejecting diet culture. Medical nutrition therapy can be integrated through an “addition not restriction” mindset, with a focus on nourishment and sustainability.

Key Quotes:

"We were not born hating our bodies... unless we do something to disrupt the cycle [of diet culture], it continues to go and go and go."

"What I want you to know is this is your body working. This is your body trying to get into balance."

"The more we outsource our eating decisions to others... we do so at our own peril in terms of disrupting self-trust."
